Lokayan Conference 1.0

In collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi (Govt. of India), Lokayan organized an international virtual conference from May 27, 28 and 29, 2022 on the theme “The Role of Society in the Practice of Folk Art and Folklore – India and the World.”

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe (Chairman, ICCR) with guidance from renowned cultural figures including Dr. Harishchandra Borkar, Dr. Ravi Chaturvedi, Dr. Rajashree Shirke, and Vasudev Kamat, among others.

Select national and international papers were published in the book “Importance of Various Elements of Society in Folklore and Folk Art.”
The conference was conceptualized and hosted by Dr. Monika Thakkar, with coordination by Yogeshwar Lolage.

Lokayan National Research Conference 2.0

Held from May 26, 27 and 28, 2023 at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Uttan (Mumbai), this national conference was jointly organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, and Lokayan. The theme was “Pollution in Global Flok Culture: Malpractice.”

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ravi Chaturvedi (International Theatre Director), Dr. Jayant Kulkarni (Executive Director, RMP), and Prof. Dr. Vibha Sharma (Aligarh Muslim University). A compendium of selected research papers titled “Pollution in Global Flok Culture: Malpractice.” was launched at the ceremony.

Prof. Sharma delivered the keynote address, shedding light on the oppression of women in folk traditions. Folk performances such as Bharud and Tamasha added a powerful cultural dimension to the conference, supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Experts, researchers, faculty, students, and artists from across India participated, engaging in deep discussions on folk arts, literature, and culture.
The conference was conceptualized and led by Dr. Monika Thakkar, with coordination by Lokayan Secretary Yogeshwar Lolage.
